I'm looking for cooling advice for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I prefer air cooling over an AIO, and for aesthetic reasons I'd like to use a compact single-tower cooler such as the Thermalright Assassin X 120 SE. I especially like that it leaves the RAM completely visible and unobstructed. Would a cooler like that be adequate, or would it run too hot or too loud? I'm willing to use a dual-tower cooler if necessary, but I'd prefer an offset or low-clearance design that doesn't hide the memory modules. I'll also check the cooler height against my case.

I’d avoid a basic single-tower cooler for this processor unless you’re prepared for higher temperatures or more fan noise. The Phantom Spirit 120 SE and Peerless Assassin models offer plenty of cooling, while the Royal Knight is a better fit if RAM clearance is your main concern. Just verify your case’s maximum cooler height.
A Peerless Assassin 120 SE handles my 5800X3D very well, so it should be more than capable of cooling a 7800X3D. A dual-tower design gives you better thermal and noise headroom than a small single tower.
A good dual-tower cooler is the safer choice for a high-end CPU like the 7800X3D. The Thermalright Royal Knight is offset and uses a slimmer front fan, so it can provide strong cooling without interfering much with the RAM.
