RNNoise Only Suppresses Noise on One Side of My Headphones

Select the capture or recording device when applying noise suppression to your microphone. The playback device controls what you hear, while the capture device is where the microphone signal is processed. After selecting the mic, verify that the plugin receives the Center channel and sends its output to both Left and Right channels. If EqualizerAPO cannot duplicate the plugin’s mono output automatically, a channel-mixing or copy-channel step may be needed after RNNoise.

A typical microphone is mono, so seeing only the Center channel is normal. The important part is that EqualizerAPO is installed and configured for the microphone’s capture device, not just the headphone playback device. If the plugin is inserted on the correct input, the same processed mono signal should be sent to both headphone channels. Since the preamp affects both sides but RNNoise does not, the rnnoise_mono plugin may be outputting only to the left channel or may not be handling EqualizerAPO’s channel routing correctly. Check the plugin’s input/output channel settings and try the other RNNoise plugin builds if available.
