I forgot to close an NSFW page in Safari before leaving home. When I arrived at work, I noticed the tab was still open in the background on my iPhone, and my phone connected to the workplace network. I closed it immediately. About 30–50 minutes had passed since leaving home, and I was disconnected from Wi‑Fi for roughly five minutes during the trip, although mobile data was enabled. Is this something my employer could detect, and could I be disciplined or fired over it?

The Wi‑Fi disconnect may have caused the page to remain suspended, but mobile data could still have allowed some background activity. Even so, a short accidental connection generally wouldn’t be treated the same as spending an hour visiting inappropriate sites during work.
You’re probably worrying more than necessary. A tab sitting in the background usually isn’t actively loading or streaming anything, especially if the page was already open before you arrived. Accidentally having it open briefly is very different from deliberately browsing that kind of content on the work network.
Most employers and network filters would be more concerned about repeated or extended browsing activity than one inactive tab that was closed right away. If there was no active viewing or downloading at work, this is unlikely to lead to any action. For peace of mind, close sensitive tabs before going to work and use private browsing for personal content.
