I'm moving from a Ryzen 7 5700X to an AM5 system with a Ryzen 9 9850X3D. I currently have an RTX 4070 Ti Super and am wondering whether I should sell it and upgrade to something like an RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, or simply keep it until a future generation such as the RTX 6000 series. Would the CPU upgrade alone be enough to improve gaming performance, especially frame-time consistency and 1% lows?

If you really want a noticeable GPU upgrade, skip the 5070 Ti and look at the RTX 5080. The 5070 Ti is only marginally faster than your current card, while the 5080 offers a more meaningful improvement. Even then, it’s mostly worthwhile if you can sell the 4070 Ti Super easily and don’t mind paying the difference.
I’d keep the 4070 Ti Super for now. It’s still a very capable card, and upgrading to a 5070 Ti would only provide a relatively modest performance increase. Unless you specifically need more resolution, ray tracing performance, or higher refresh-rate numbers, the cost probably isn’t justified.
At current GPU prices, I agree. Adjusting a few settings from Ultra to High or Medium usually gives back a lot of performance with barely noticeable visual differences.
I’d wait for the next major GPU generation unless you’re currently unhappy with your frame rates. The 4070 Ti Super has plenty of VRAM and performance for modern gaming, and newer upscaling or frame-generation features alone may not be enough reason to replace it. Keep it, enjoy the CPU upgrade, and reassess when a genuinely larger GPU jump is available.
The new CPU should help more with CPU-limited games, high refresh rates, and 1% lows, but it won’t automatically make the GPU render faster. In most demanding games, the 4070 Ti Super will still be the limiting component, which is perfectly fine. The platform upgrade was already a good move if you got the processor and bundle at a great price; you don’t need to pair it with a top-end GPU.
Exactly. Having a powerful gaming CPU doesn’t mean you have to buy one of the most expensive graphics cards. Upgrade the GPU only when your actual games and settings show that you need more performance.
That makes sense. I’m mainly wondering whether the 5080’s extra performance and newer features would justify replacing the card now.
