I'm a game developer using Unreal Engine 5, and I've been feeling increasingly frustrated with Windows due to its bulkiness and constant ads. I primarily use VS Code and Visual Studio Community for coding alongside Unreal Engine. I also play games on Steam, and sometimes on Ubisoft Connect and the EA App. I'm curious about how well these applications perform on Linux and if I should expect to spend a lot of time tweaking settings for everything to run smoothly. Additionally, I want to know whether I can play Grand Theft Auto V with Fivem on Linux, since I heard that requires some workarounds.

Definitely go for Linux! Most games, especially those on Steam, are playable. Also, Neovim is a fantastic editor if you're into that. Just be aware that some games outside of Steam might be tricky to run, but you can usually find solutions. As for Fivem, that's a bit tougher since I've heard it doesn't play nice with Linux. But for most of the titles you're interested in, the performance is great!
You might find our resources page helpful! It's got a lot of useful tips for transitioning to Linux. Just remember to take regular backups, test things in a virtual machine, and be sure you understand any commands before executing them!
I've switched to Linux for my game development and gaming needs, and I absolutely love it! I'm using PopOS with a tiling window manager, and my Steam library runs surprisingly well. I work on AI development too, and Linux makes it all easier. I can't comment on Unreal Engine directly, since I'm using Unity, but I found the experience just as buggy as on Windows—if not a bit smoother overall. Just keep in mind that if you have a lot of games from other platforms aside from Steam, you might face some challenges there.
