My Acer Nitro 5 recently developed a major performance problem. It has a Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and Windows 11. Fortnite Creative used to run at roughly 300–380 FPS, but now it fluctuates between 20 and 120 FPS with severe stuttering, even in Performance Mode. GTA V and FiveM have also become noticeably less smooth, regardless of whether I use low or high settings.
I've already reinstalled Fortnite, updated and reinstalled NVIDIA drivers, installed chipset drivers, enabled Performance Mode, checked temperatures, confirmed that Fortnite is using the RTX 3060, tried different resolutions and graphics settings, and restarted the laptop. I also have about 211GB of free storage.
Recently, I received a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (0x9F) blue screen, although Windows started normally afterward. Could this be related to a driver, power-management problem, GPU issue, Windows problem, or hardware throttling?

Even if the temperatures look normal during a quick check, dust buildup can still restrict airflow and cause the CPU or GPU to throttle under sustained gaming loads. After several years of use, clean the fans and heatsinks carefully, and make sure the vents are unobstructed. You can then monitor clock speeds, temperatures, and power limits while a game is running.
The blue-screen error is worth investigating rather than treating it as a one-off. Check C:WindowsMinidump for crash files and review them with a dump-analysis tool. The files may identify a device or driver that is failing during a power-state change. If no dumps were created, enable small memory dumps so the next crash leaves something useful to analyze.
The laptop is about three to four years old, and I haven’t done a thorough internal cleaning in at least four months. I’m going to clean the fans and heatsinks and check the performance again.
