Since the laptop was opened, try removing and reseating the RAM as well. A slightly disturbed memory module can cause the system to power on without displaying anything. Redoing the thermal paste usually won’t fix a no-display problem by itself, unless paste got onto the board or the heatsink was installed unevenly. Inspect the motherboard carefully for spilled paste, damaged components, or a misplaced screw. Make sure the heatsink is tightened evenly and that no protective film was left on a thermal pad.
