I'm considering replacing my Core i5-10600K with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and want to know what kind of FPS improvement I could realistically expect. I currently use a Radeon RX 6700 XT, though I may upgrade the graphics card later. Would the CPU upgrade be worthwhile, especially for gaming?

Resolution makes a big difference. At 1080p, especially in esports or CPU-heavy games, the 5800X3D can provide a noticeable uplift. At 1440p the gain is usually more modest, and at 4K you’ll often be limited by the graphics card instead. Check your GPU usage while gaming: if it is already near 100%, a CPU upgrade won’t change much.
Keep in mind this isn’t a drop-in upgrade. The 5800X3D uses AMD’s AM4 socket, so you would need a compatible motherboard, although you can reuse DDR4 memory. Once you add the motherboard cost, moving to a newer platform may be worth comparing unless you find a good deal on the 5800X3D and board.
With the RX 6700 XT, the improvement probably won’t be huge in most games. You could see better 1% lows and smoother frame times, but the average FPS gain depends heavily on the game, resolution, and settings. A 10600K is still generally capable of keeping up with that GPU.
It makes more sense if you plan to install a substantially faster GPU later or want very high refresh rates at 1080p. With the current 6700 XT, I’d only upgrade now if you’re seeing CPU-limited performance, stuttering, or poor frame-time consistency. Otherwise, saving the money for the future GPU upgrade is probably the better move.

That makes sense. I’ll check CPU and GPU utilization in the games I play before deciding, rather than expecting a fixed FPS increase.
