My phone works normally otherwise, but the battery no longer holds a charge well. I'm planning to have the battery replaced and want to know whether the repair itself could erase my photos, apps, or other personal data. Is data loss part of the normal process, or is it only a risk if something goes wrong?

There’s always some risk with hardware repairs, even when data loss isn’t expected. Back up important files, photos, and recordings beforehand so you’re covered if the battery has expanded, leaked, or damaged other components.
If your data is already backed up, you’re in good shape. Automatic backups are worth keeping enabled all the time rather than waiting until a repair or other problem comes up.
A battery replacement normally shouldn’t erase the phone. Wiping the device isn’t part of the standard repair process, but unexpected problems can happen, especially if the phone has other damage or something goes wrong during service. Make a current backup before handing it over.
I already have everything backed up, so I’ll make sure it’s up to date again before the repair.
