After installing the latest Windows 11 update, the light on my laptop's F5 key remains on after startup. Restarting or shutting down the computer does not change it, and pressing F5 with or without the Fn key has no effect. I believe the key may control microphone muting. How can I turn the indicator light off and restore the key's normal behavior?

Try the laptop manufacturer’s keyboard or function-key utility as well as the audio driver. Some models control the F5 light through a separate hotkey service, so reinstalling or updating that utility can restore the mute-key behavior after a Windows update.
That light may indicate that the microphone is muted rather than that the key itself is active. Check your sound settings and Device Manager to make sure the microphone and its drivers are enabled and working correctly. A Windows update may have changed or disabled the audio driver, so reinstalling the laptop manufacturer’s audio or hotkey driver could also fix the indicator.
I’ll check the microphone status and drivers first. If they’re disabled, that would explain why the F5 indicator stays on.
