I'm not very familiar with computers, and I have a Windows 11 ROG Zephyrus G14 GA403 (2025) that I've owned for about a year and a half. For roughly a week, it has made a faint buzzing sound, but while running a heavily modded Minecraft pack with Discord open, it suddenly became extremely loud and started vibrating noticeably. The sound changed when I held the laptop, which made it seem like something inside was moving or spinning unevenly. Closing the game didn't stop it immediately, but restarting the laptop gradually reduced the noise until it disappeared. It's currently working normally. Is this probably a fan or another hardware problem, and could the laptop be seriously damaged?

The fans are probably the only moving parts inside, assuming the laptop doesn’t have a mechanical hard drive. A damaged fan blade, debris touching the blades, or a worn bearing can make the fan spin unevenly and cause strong buzzing and vibration. Since it’s still under warranty, contact the manufacturer or seller before opening the case or attempting a repair.
The laptop probably isn’t permanently ruined, especially since the noise stopped and it still works. However, a recurring faint buzz usually means the fan should be checked rather than ignored. If it happens again, note whether the sound changes with fan speed and monitor the temperatures; don’t try to bend or break fan blades to balance them, because that can make the damage worse.
This sounds most like a cooling fan with either a broken fin or a failing bearing. Heavy gaming made the fans spin faster, which would explain why the problem became much louder. Avoid continuing to run demanding games if the vibration returns, since a failing fan may eventually stop and cause overheating. A repair shop can inspect and replace it if you’re not comfortable opening the laptop.
If the warranty doesn’t cover it, a replacement laptop fan is usually inexpensive, but it’s better to use the warranty first rather than risk damaging anything while opening the machine.
