After about eight years with my previous PC, I built a new system with an NZXT H9 Flow RGB+ case, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk Max WiFi motherboard, 64GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, an RTX 5070 Ti, and two Samsung 990 Pro NVMe drives—1TB for the operating system and 4TB for games. I'm enjoying the build, but a friend is offering me an RTX 5090 at its original retail price. Would that be a meaningful upgrade, especially for 4K gaming on a QD-OLED monitor? Also, will a 5090 physically fit in the H9 Flow without putting too much pressure on the side panel or power cable?

At 4K, especially with a high-refresh OLED display, the 5090 would be a substantial upgrade over the 5070 Ti. The extra VRAM and raw performance can help with demanding games and ray tracing. At 1440p, the difference is still large, but you may run into CPU or game-engine limits more often. Whether it’s worth spending another large amount is mostly a question of how much you value maximum settings and longevity.
The offer sounds worth considering if it is genuinely from someone you trust and the card is in good condition. Verify the model, receipt or warranty status, and test it before handing over the money. At retail price, the upgrade is much easier to justify than paying an inflated resale price, but your 9800X3D system is already excellent, so the 5090 is an enthusiast upgrade rather than something you need.
A 5090 should fit in an H9 Flow, but the exact card model matters because cooler length and thickness vary considerably. Check the manufacturer’s dimensions against the case’s GPU clearance, and leave room for the 12V-2x6 power connector. Avoid sharply bending the cable immediately beside the plug, and make sure the connector is fully seated so the side panel doesn’t press against it.
That was my main concern—the card fitting near the glass and having enough room for the power cable. I’ll compare the exact card dimensions rather than relying only on the general case compatibility.
I do have a 4K QD-OLED, so I’m tempted. I’m mainly hesitating because the system already cost a lot, and upgrading again feels like the start of a slippery slope.
