I'm building my first PC and plan to use an RX 9070 XT, but I'm unsure which CPU and motherboard make sense. I've heard that a build needs balanced components, so I'd appreciate recommendations for gaming-focused options at different budgets. I'm also wondering how much the choice depends on resolution, games, and whether I want an upgrade path later.

For a modern gaming build, AM5 is the sensible platform. A Ryzen 5 7500F or similar is enough for a tighter budget, while a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D is a stronger match if you want high frame rates and plan to keep the system for years. Pair it with a reputable B650 or B850 motherboard and make sure it has the features you need, such as Wi-Fi, USB ports, and enough M.2 slots.
The best choice depends heavily on resolution. At 1440p, a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D would pair very well with the 9070 XT. At 4K, a Ryzen 5 7500F or another capable six-core AM5 CPU can often keep up because the graphics card is usually the limit. For 1080p high-refresh competitive gaming, the faster X3D chips make more sense, but the 9070 XT may be overkill unless you plan to upgrade your monitor.
There isn’t one universal pairing without knowing your budget, country, games, and target resolution. Most current AM5 CPUs will work well, so spend more on the X3D processor if you play CPU-heavy or competitive games, and choose the motherboard based on features rather than buying the most expensive chipset.
If you want a balance between price and future upgrades, an AM5 Ryzen 5 such as the 7500F is a good starting point. If gaming performance is the priority and your budget allows it, choose a 7800X3D or 9800X3D instead. A quality B650 board is generally sufficient; a newer B850 or B650E model is worth considering only if you specifically need its extra connectivity or PCIe features.

I’m currently using a Ryzen 7 7700X with a much older graphics card and a 240 Hz 1080p display. If upgrading, moving to 1440p would probably make better use of a powerful GPU than focusing only on maximum 1080p frame rates.
