I'm currently working remotely and spend all day at my PC, listening to music. I'm looking to upgrade my audio setup but can't decide whether I should invest in a soundbar or a pair of traditional PC speakers. I have a shelf above my monitor where I could place them, but I also need to stick to a budget of $250. Any suggestions on what would work best?

Go for some powered bookshelf speakers! Edifier makes some great options like their S2000MKIII that sound fantastic. You can even add a subwoofer later if you want to boost the bass.
If you're set on the $250 cap, I'd say skip the soundbar. A good pair of speakers will almost always provide better sound. Plus, a soundbar doesn't give you the immersive experience that dedicated speakers do.
Generally, proper speakers are a better option because they typically have larger drivers which lead to better sound quality. Plus, you'll have a wider range of options available when looking for budget-friendly models.
It really comes down to the quality of what you're choosing. A high-quality soundbar might work if you're tight on space, but they'd often still fall short compared to a real set of speakers.
Speakers for sure! If you're on a tight budget and short on space, I’d recommend checking out something like the Micca PB42x or the Fluance Ai41. It’s really important to have the speakers at ear level for optimal sound, so consider mounting them or getting some stands. Sound coming from above can really mess with your audio experience. If you're looking for alternate options, good headphones might be another space-saving solution!
Great idea! I’ll definitely look into those stands when I upgrade.
I hear you! I own the PB42x and they’ve lasted me years. You might also want to think about getting stands to help position your speakers correctly.
