Am I getting paid fairly as a school IT admin in Sweden?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some insights from fellow school administrators in Sweden. I'm the sole IT admin for a school serving about 1000 users (students and staff) and managing around 500 devices, all based in Stockholm. My salary is 39,000 SEK per month net (which is roughly $4,000 USD right now). I often feel overwhelmed by the workload and find myself prioritizing urgent tasks while pushing less critical ones to the back burner. I'm curious how my salary stacks up against the market. Should I consider asking for a raise, or do you think my pay is reasonable? Thanks for your thoughts!

I can’t speak to the Swedish market directly, but in Australia, schools often underpay IT roles too. Maybe check job listings for similar positions outside of education in Sweden to compare salary expectations. That could give you a clearer picture of your situation!

Great point! Just remember that public sector jobs might offer better security, even if the pay is less.

That’s a pretty hefty workload for one person managing IT! If you're handling all that alone, I’d say you might be a bit underpaid, though not by a huge margin. It might be worth discussing sharing the workload with a colleague before pushing for a raise.

Absolutely! Sometimes just having someone to share the load can make a big difference to your peace of mind.

From my perspective as an engineer in Sweden, 39k net is decent for public sector jobs. While you might not be at the lower end of the scale, it wouldn’t hurt to ask for a raise if you feel your efforts warrant it. Just be prepared to back it up with how much value you bring to the table!

That makes sense. If OP is really the only tech support, they should definitely advocate for having more help and a salary that reflects that responsibility.
