I bought a brand new iPhone 14, but now it's activation locked due to a mistake made by someone younger. I presented an ORIGINAL sales receipt from AT&T and a photo of the phone next to the box showing its serial number, but my unlock request was denied. I'm looking for any other ideas on what I can provide to prove that this phone has always been mine.

I can’t listen in on your call with Apple support, but I suggest calling them back to ask why your request was rejected. Sometimes, it's just simple things like not including the serial number properly that can cause issues.
Did you submit your unlock request through Apple's support page? Make sure you've started it here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/108934. That might help clarify things.
Yes, I included the sales receipt in my request.
Why can't you enter your correct Apple Account credentials to activate? If you can't provide that info, removing the linked Apple Account might be an option, but it sounds like you have good proof of ownership.
It's a long story, but I thought proving ownership would be enough to unlock it.
If there's an Apple Store near you, consider making an appointment at the Genius Bar. Bring the phone, box, and sales receipt with the serial number. They can often help you unlock it right there. But I know not everyone has one close by.
The nearest is 3 hours away, unfortunately.
Got it, I’ll check with them again.
