I'm working on my first freelance web development project for a food place but I'm hitting a snag—my client hasn't provided any content like copy or photos yet. I need to make some progress on the site, so I'm wondering how you guys approach situations like this. Should I just go with Lorem Ipsum text and stock images? What are the best practices for dealing with clients who are slow to deliver content? Any tips you can share would really help!

Definitely go with FPO images and Lorem Ipsum for text. Just make sure you have an idea of the sizes or dimensions that you need. That way, when they do send content, it’ll fit perfectly into your layout.
For the food photos, I would suggest just assuming an aspect ratio and ask them to send photos that fit that, or let them know you can crop the images to work.
I recommend having a solid contract! It should outline your timelines and make it clear that you won’t start certain parts until you have the necessary content from them.
Honestly, if the client is that slow, maybe suggest they try a site builder like Wix. It could be less time-consuming for them instead of having you stuck waiting for content.
I usually send a simple questionnaire to make it easy for clients to give me some basic info about their business. It doesn’t take long to fill out and then I base my copy off of that. If they’re dragging their feet on photos, I just use stock images for the time being. Plus, I always make it clear that the timeline depends on when they provide the content. And yes, I request payment upfront to protect myself from delays.
That's a solid plan! In the meantime, you can use FPO (for placement only) copy and images that meet the ideal dimensions. AI tools can also help you create decent copy instead of relying on just Lorem Ipsum.
