I'm looking to replace my MSI X570-A PRO motherboard while keeping as much of my current system as possible. My Ryzen 7 3700X uses the AM4 socket, and my current memory is 16GB of Corsair DDR4-2400. However, I also have a 64GB kit of Crucial DDR5-6400 memory that I'd like to use if possible. I haven't been able to find a motherboard that supports both AM4 and DDR5. Do any such boards exist, or would using this DDR5 kit require upgrading to a newer CPU platform as well? I'm considering a motherboard replacement because the system has been intermittently crashing to a black screen despite replacing the power supply and GPU, checking the hardware, reinstalling drivers, and reinstalling Windows.

AM4 motherboards only support DDR4. The Ryzen 7 3700X’s memory controller is designed for DDR4, so there isn’t an AM4 board that can use your DDR5 kit. You’ll need to keep DDR4 or move to a newer platform such as AM5, which would also require a compatible CPU and motherboard.
You’re not overlooking anything—AM4 and DDR5 belong to different platform generations. With the current Ryzen 7 3700X, stay with DDR4. To use the Crucial DDR5 kit, you’d need to upgrade to an AM5 processor and motherboard as well.
Understood. In that case, I’ll either keep using DDR4 with the existing CPU or plan a full platform upgrade rather than looking for an AM4/DDR5 motherboard.
That clears it up, thanks. I was hoping a motherboard swap might solve my intermittent black-screen crashes, but after replacing the power supply and GPU, checking everything, reinstalling drivers, and doing a clean Windows installation, the motherboard is about the only major suspect left.
