I factory-reset my gaming PC and reinstalled Windows 11 Pro, which updated it to version 24H2. Since then, I can't connect to the internet because Windows says the Ethernet cable is unplugged. The cables work normally when I use them with another computer, so I'm wondering whether the issue is a missing driver, a network adapter setting, or a problem with the PC's Ethernet port. What should I check?

Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters. Look for the wired Ethernet adapter and check whether it has a warning icon or is disabled. After a clean installation, Windows may not have installed the manufacturer’s LAN driver. Download the Ethernet driver for your exact motherboard or PC model from the manufacturer using another device, copy it over with a USB drive, and install it.
The message can also appear when the adapter is misconfigured. In the adapter’s properties, make sure it is enabled and try setting Speed & Duplex to Auto Negotiation. You can also remove the adapter in Device Manager and restart Windows so it detects it again, then install the latest chipset and Ethernet drivers from the PC or motherboard manufacturer.
Since the cables work on another computer, check the entire physical connection on this PC: try a different Ethernet port on the router or switch, inspect the PC’s Ethernet jack for bent pins or debris, and see whether the port LEDs light up when the cable is connected. If there are no lights at all, the port or its hardware may be the problem.
I tested the cables on another computer and they worked, so I’m leaning toward something being wrong with this PC. I’m not sure how to tell whether it’s the port or Windows, though.
