I recently upgraded nearly everything in my computer, including the motherboard and RAM. After reconnecting my existing hard drives and powering the system on, none of them appear in BIOS or in the operating system's disk management tool. I've unplugged and reconnected the drives, but that didn't help. They were working shortly before the upgrade, so I'm hoping this is a motherboard or connection issue rather than multiple failed drives. What should I check?

Try moving the drives to different SATA ports on the motherboard. Some boards disable specific SATA ports when certain M.2 or NVMe slots are in use, and the port layout can also change after a motherboard upgrade. Check the motherboard manual to see which ports share bandwidth.
Start by checking the BIOS storage settings and resetting the BIOS to its defaults. If the drives still aren’t detected there, the operating system won’t be able to see them either. Also verify that both the SATA data cables and power connectors are firmly attached.
I reset the BIOS, but the drives still don’t appear.
Since the drives worked recently, test them one at a time with a known-good SATA cable and power lead. If a drive is detected in BIOS when connected to another port, the issue is probably the original port, cable, or motherboard configuration. If none are detected, double-check the power supply connections and the board’s storage settings.

I’ll try different ports, although I don’t have any NVMe drives installed and there aren’t many SATA ports available.
