Help! I Deleted the Application Support Folder and Lost My Quicken Data—Is There Any Way to Recover It?

I'm really in a tough spot here. I was dealing with Apple Support regarding an iMessage storage issue on my iMac (Sequoia 15.5), and at their suggestion, I deleted my entire 'Application Support' folder and emptied the trash. While the iMessage issue got resolved, I just found out that my Quicken app is now acting like it's brand new—I've lost all my financial data! I tried reaching out to Apple Support again, but they told me to enable Time Machine and there's nothing they can do since I emptied the trash.

I can't stress how important this data is to me; I've spent years managing my finances, and the thought of losing it is crushing. I didn't know that Quicken Cloud relied on files stored locally on my computer. I've just enabled Time Machine on my external hard drive, but is there any hope for recovering my lost files? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I haven’t found any QDF files when I searched. I really thought my files were backed up online, but it seems I just synced them instead. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Try searching for any file that ends with .QDF—that's the main Quicken data file. You could have just lost the pointers to those files. If you don’t have iCloud Drive activated on your desktop, you should do that and see if anything shows up there. Trust me, I won't judge you for not having a backup; it's a tough lesson learned.

Did you check your Documents folder for any Quicken files? Sometimes they might be automatically saved there.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing in my Documents folder.

Definitely check with Quicken support about where the data files are stored, they might have some insight.

I'm really sorry to hear about this! Just to clarify, the Quicken data files aren't usually stored in the Application Support folder, but you might have deleted some preferences. Have you done a full search for any Quicken files? They might still be on your computer.

I thought the Quicken Cloud was doing a full backup of my files. I didn't even know I deleted the backup data file since I also cleared out my Library cache folder. I did search thoroughly, but only the application shows up.
