I recently built a gaming PC, and the power went out while it was switched on, although I wasn't actively using it. I turned off the power supply as soon as I noticed. Now that electricity has been restored, what should I check to make sure the hardware and software are still working properly?

A sudden outage usually doesn’t damage a PC, especially if the power supply has basic protection. After booting, check that all drives, USB devices, fans, and graphics output are working. You can also look through the operating system’s event logs for unexpected shutdown or disk errors, but a single unexpected-shutdown entry is normal after a blackout.
Turn it on and see whether it starts normally. If it boots, displays an image, and runs without unusual sounds, smells, crashes, or error messages, it’s probably fine. You can then use it normally and keep an eye out for instability.
