I received a lease agreement as a PDF and need to sign and return it today. I don't have access to a printer and would rather not visit a print shop for one signature. When I open the attachment in Mail, it only shows a read-only preview. Is there a way to add my signature directly from my iPhone?

You should be able to sign it from the built-in PDF preview after saving the attachment to Files. Open the saved document, use the Markup tools, add a signature, place it on the form, and save or share the finished copy.
Save the PDF to the Files app first, then open it and tap the Markup pen icon. Tap the plus button, choose Signature, and draw your signature with your finger. You can then drag it onto the correct line and save the completed document. For a lease, though, a dedicated e-signing service may be safer because it can provide an audit trail and preserve the document’s formatting more reliably than basic Markup.
That worked, but the audit-trail point made me reconsider using basic Markup for a lease. I’m going to use a dedicated PDF signing app instead.
The built-in tool is fine for a quick signature, but dedicated signing apps are usually better for legal or business documents. I’ve had Markup cause formatting problems with fillable PDFs before.
