The built-in camera on my HP Victus 15 isn't working. Its indicator LED blinks, but the preview stays completely black in every app that tries to use the webcam. What should I check to get it working?

The camera may be disabled with a keyboard shortcut. Look for an F-key with a camera icon and try it by itself or with Fn held down, such as Fn+F8 or Fn+F10. In Windows, also go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera, enable camera access, and make sure access is allowed for the app you’re using. Since it happens in every app, also check the camera driver in Device Manager and reinstall or update it if necessary.
Check whether the physical camera shutter is closed. Slide it open and then test the webcam again—some Victus models have a small privacy slider near the camera.
I meant the part you open before taking a picture. I’ll check for a physical shutter near the camera.
It’s an HP Victus 15, and the camera is black in every app that tries to use it, not just one application.
