I currently have a Gigabyte AORUS RTX 3080 Ti Master 12GB, the large triple-fan model with an LCD screen. I found an RX 7900 XT priced at $450, while I estimate I could sell my 3080 Ti for roughly $400–$450 depending on its condition and the buyer. That would make the swap nearly cost-neutral. The 7900 XT offers around 15–20% better raster performance and 20GB of VRAM, but I would be giving up Nvidia features such as DLSS and generally stronger ray-tracing performance. Would you make this trade, especially for 1440p gaming?

If you mainly play standard rasterized games and have started hitting the 12GB VRAM limit, the 7900 XT is a reasonable move. You would get a newer card, roughly 15–20% more raster performance, and 20GB of VRAM for almost no extra money. I would check your power supply first, since the 7900 XT can have noticeable transient power spikes.
I would probably keep the 3080 Ti unless you specifically need more VRAM. The performance increase is useful but not huge, and DLSS plus Nvidia's better ray tracing support can matter more than the raw raster uplift. The 3080 Ti is still capable of handling modern games well, so waiting for a larger generational upgrade may make more sense.
The choice really depends on your games and settings. The 7900 XT is great for 1440p ultra gaming without relying heavily on upscaling or frame generation, while the 3080 Ti is the better fit if you use DLSS, ray tracing, or Nvidia-specific tools. Extra VRAM is also useful for local AI workloads, but it only justifies the swap if that is something you actually plan to do.
I might experiment with local AI hosting, so the additional VRAM is one of the reasons I am considering the switch.
