Is the RTX 3070 still a good choice for modern gaming?

I'm buying my first PC and found a system with an RTX 3070. I mainly want to play Warzone and BeamNG at 1080p, and my budget is around €650. Is the RTX 3070 still capable of delivering good performance in current games, or would I be better off looking for a newer graphics card? The system includes a 650W Gold-rated power supply.

Its age mostly shows in newer AAA games and ray tracing. You probably won’t be able to max out every recent release, particularly at 1440p, but using high or medium settings and DLSS usually keeps performance smooth. For 1080p, 8GB is still generally workable, though it isn’t especially future-proof.

Yes, it’s still a solid card for 1080p gaming and can handle many games at high settings with well over 60 FPS. It can also do 1440p reasonably well if you lower a few settings or use DLSS. Warzone and BeamNG should be perfectly manageable with it. The main drawback is the 8GB of VRAM, which is starting to limit newer, more demanding games.

That’s reassuring. Warzone and BeamNG are the games I’ll play most, so I don’t need everything to run at ultra settings.

You may hear people recommend undervolting because 30-series cards can draw a lot of power and run warm. It can reduce temperatures and noise without much performance loss, but it isn’t mandatory if the card stays at a reasonable temperature. A 650W Gold power supply should be adequate for an RTX 3070 as long as it’s a decent-quality unit.

Good to know. I’ll check the temperatures first instead of changing anything unnecessarily.

The RTX 3070 is still good if the price is right, especially for a used PC. Just compare the total system price with newer options rather than assuming the older card is automatically a bargain. A newer GPU may offer more VRAM and newer features, but a reasonably priced 3070 still provides a lot of performance for 1080p.

It’s part of a used PC from someone who has owned it for about a year, so I’ll make sure the overall price is fair.
