I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600 with 32GB of DDR4-3600 CL18, an RX 6800, and a B450 motherboard. My average 1440p performance is good, but demanding games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Call of Duty, and other CPU-heavy titles often have noticeable frame dips and weak 1% lows. That is the main thing I want to improve for now.
A nearby Micro Center has the Ryzen 5 5600X3D available for $180, and I could probably sell my current CPU for around $130, making the upgrade fairly inexpensive. I'm also considering a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D for the extra cores and longer-term value. What price would make either of those a better buy for improving minimum frame rates, especially during a Prime Day or Black Friday sale?
I also have a Wraith Prism cooler. Would it be adequate for these processors, or should I buy a stronger air cooler?

The 5800X3D is difficult to recommend at roughly twice the price of the 5600X3D when gaming performance is relatively close. Put the savings toward a cooler, storage, or another component. The Wraith Prism should handle the 5600X3D, but a decent dual-tower cooler is a better idea for the hotter eight-core chips and can keep them around the 70s under sustained load.
The 5600X3D is a strong option for this system. Someone switching from a 5700X to a 5600X3D reported roughly 15–30% better minimum frame times in CPU-limited games. The 5700X3D or 5800X3D only make more sense if you find one at a genuinely good discount or need the extra cores for workloads beyond gaming.
That’s reassuring. I was mainly worried that the limited availability meant it might not be powerful enough, but I’ll avoid paying around $300 for a 5800X3D unless pricing drops dramatically.

The extra 3D V-Cache should noticeably improve CPU-limited frame times, while the 5700X3D and 5800X3D generally won’t deliver enough additional gaming performance to justify a large price premium. A basic $25 tower cooler would be a worthwhile upgrade, though the Wraith Prism should be adequate for the 5600X3D.
