I'm considering replacing my current gaming PC—an RTX 3090, Core i7-10700K, Z490 motherboard, and 32 GB of RAM—with an RTX 5090, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ASUS X870 motherboard, and 64 GB of RAM. My current system is beginning to struggle in newer games, and I've been saving for this upgrade for several years.
However, many discussions about the RTX 5090 Astral focus on melted power connectors. If you own this model, have you experienced any problems? I'm also concerned because prices have been increasing almost every day. Is it better to buy now before prices rise further, or wait for availability and pricing to settle?

The connector issue is usually associated with an adapter, a cable that isn’t fully inserted, or a sharply bent cable near the plug. Use a proper, compatible 12V-2x6 cable from the power supply manufacturer, make sure it is completely seated, and avoid putting sideways pressure on it. The Astral’s monitoring features can help identify uneven pin voltage, but they don’t eliminate installation risks.
At the prices you’re describing, I’d wait unless you need the card for work that directly earns money. Paying several thousand for a gaming GPU is difficult to justify, and inflated prices may not last. If you do buy one, make sure the retailer has a clear return or replacement policy, especially since warranty handling can be difficult in some countries.
For gaming alone, the upgrade may be excessive unless you’re playing at 4K with very high refresh rates or using demanding ray tracing settings. A 5080 or a discounted 4090 could offer much better value, while still being a huge step up from a 3090. You could also upgrade the GPU first and see whether your current CPU is actually holding you back.
The rest of the platform upgrade makes sense if you want a long-term system, but 64 GB of RAM is mainly useful for heavy workloads, modded games, or multitasking. For normal gaming, 32 GB is still sufficient in many cases. Before buying everything at once, compare benchmarks for the games you actually play and consider waiting for a refreshed model or more normal pricing.
That return policy is one of my biggest concerns. In my country, stores often only exchange a defective product for something else instead of refunding the money, so I want to be especially careful about the connector issue.
