My Lenovo M415DA suddenly stopped charging. Windows shows the battery stuck at 0%, but the laptop turns on and works normally while connected to the charger. I already reinstalled the battery and AC adapter drivers, performed a hard reset, disconnected the battery, and held the power button for 30–60 seconds, but nothing changed.
The laptop had been unused and unplugged for around a year and a half before I received it two months ago. Could leaving it unused for that long have damaged the battery or triggered its protection circuit? A battery health check previously reported that it was still in good condition. Is there anything else I can try, or does the battery probably need to be replaced?

The battery probably needs to be replaced. Lithium-ion batteries can be damaged by sitting unused for a long time, especially if they slowly discharged below the protection circuit’s safe voltage. A laptop can still run normally from the charger even when the battery itself has failed.
Run a full Windows battery report with `powercfg /batteryreport` and compare the design capacity with the current full-charge capacity. A report can show decent capacity estimates even when the battery’s charging circuit has failed. Also try leaving the laptop powered completely off while charging for several hours. If it remains at 0%, the battery protection circuit may have locked out after the long storage period, and replacing the battery is usually the practical fix.
I used a battery health command before, but I don’t remember the exact one. I’ll generate the full battery report and try charging it while it’s completely powered off.
That’s surprising because the health report didn’t show much degradation. I’ll check the battery details again to see whether it reports a normal capacity but still shows 0% charge.
