Since the fan is running and the laptop is getting warm, it may be powering on but failing during startup rather than being completely dead. A faulty charger or power connection can also cause similar symptoms, so testing with a known-good compatible charger would be worthwhile.
It would help to determine whether Windows is actually booting or whether the system is stuck before startup. Testing with an external monitor could distinguish a display problem from a motherboard or boot failure, although the eventual diagnosis in this case was a failed motherboard.
