I've just finished assembling my first PC, and the only major component I still need is a graphics card. I originally planned to buy an RTX 5070 Ti because it was only about $150–$200 more than the RX 9070 XT where I live. However, Nvidia's prices have since increased, and the 5070 Ti now costs roughly $300–$400 more. I'm also wondering whether it would be worth saving even longer for an RTX 5080. For a primarily gaming-focused build, should I buy the RX 9070 XT now, or pay extra for an Nvidia card?

Choose the 5070 Ti if you really care about DLSS, ray tracing and path tracing, CUDA-based applications, or Nvidia’s streaming features. Those can be meaningful advantages, but they probably aren’t worth several hundred dollars extra for ordinary gaming.
If you’re gaming and doing work that benefits from CUDA, the Nvidia card makes more sense. If this is mainly a gaming PC, I’d get the 9070 XT and put the money saved toward another upgrade or future replacement.
I’d only stretch to a 5080 if you can comfortably afford it and specifically want the extra performance. Otherwise, the 9070 XT gives you a strong experience without paying a huge premium for features you may not use.
For gaming, the RX 9070 XT is probably the better value at that price difference. The cards are fairly close overall, so paying an extra $300–$400 for the 5070 Ti is difficult to justify unless you specifically need Nvidia features or software support.
The 9070 XT is also a reasonable choice if you might move to Linux later, since AMD’s support is generally more straightforward there. Ultimately, the decision comes down to whether Nvidia’s feature set is worth the current price premium for your particular games and applications.
