I recently bought an RX 9070 XT and plan to move from 1080p to a 1440p OLED monitor running at 144Hz or higher. My current system has a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, Gigabyte B550 AORUS Elite V2, 32GB of DDR4-3200 CL16, a PCIe 4.0 Crucial T500 NVMe SSD, and an 850W Corsair RM850x power supply.
The upgrade I'm considering would replace the CPU, motherboard, and memory with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Gigabyte X870 AORUS Elite WIFI7, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30. I'm mainly wondering whether the 5700X3D would prevent the RX 9070 XT from performing properly at 1440p, especially regarding 1% lows, stuttering, frame pacing, or inconsistent frame times in AAA and CPU-intensive games.
I'm also unsure whether running the graphics card at PCIe 4.0 instead of PCIe 5.0 would meaningfully affect gaming performance. Finally, I would like to know whether upgrading from the 5700X3D to a 5800X3D would be worthwhile, or whether I should simply keep my current platform and spend the money on a better monitor.

Most people would keep the 5700X3D and buy the 1440p OLED first. At that resolution, the RX 9070 XT will usually be the limiting component, and the 5700X3D is still a very capable gaming CPU. Moving to a 7800X3D could improve performance in some CPU-limited games, but it probably won’t transform the experience or justify replacing the motherboard and memory right now.
PCIe 4.0 x16 should not be a concern. A 9070 XT does not need PCIe 5.0 bandwidth for normal gaming, so running it on your B550 board should have little to no measurable effect on average FPS, 1% lows, or frame-time consistency. The CPU can matter in games that are heavily dependent on a few fast cores, but the 5700X3D’s extra cache makes it a strong match for this GPU overall.
The 5800X3D upgrade would be especially difficult to justify. The difference from a 5700X3D is small enough that most games would feel essentially the same, so you would be paying a lot for a minor gain. If a particular game is CPU-bound, lowering graphics settings or checking whether the game is limited by a few threads is a better first step.
A 1440p OLED will probably be a much more noticeable upgrade than changing platforms. The 9070 XT should be able to drive high frame rates at 1440p, and your current CPU, RAM, power supply, and PCIe 4.0 connection are all adequate. Try the new monitor first, then use CPU and GPU utilization plus frame-time data to decide whether an upgrade is actually needed.
There are cases where a newer CPU gives higher FPS, especially in competitive games, simulation titles, or situations where you’re trying to maintain very high refresh rates. But for typical AAA gaming at 1440p, the improvement from a 5700X3D to a 7800X3D is likely to be modest. I’d only move to AM5 if you have a specific CPU-limited game or want the newer platform for future upgrades.
