My current gaming setup uses a Ryzen 7 5800X3D on AM4, an RTX 3080, 32GB of DDR4, and an Asus TUF VG27AQL1 running at 1440p and 170Hz. I also have a PS5 Pro that I could connect to a new display. I'm considering either upgrading the graphics card to an RX 9070 XT or buying a 32-inch 4K 240Hz OLED monitor, such as the XG32UCWG. I mainly play AAA single-player games, RPGs, story-driven titles, and open-world games rather than competitive esports games. Would the 5800X3D significantly bottleneck an RX 9070 XT, especially at 1440p or 4K? Which upgrade would provide the bigger real-world improvement? I like the idea of 4K for image quality and PS5 Pro use, but I'm concerned about the performance cost and whether a 9070 XT can deliver good frame rates at that resolution. I'd also appreciate suggestions for other upgrade paths that make sense for this setup.

For your games, I’d choose the RX 9070 XT first and keep the 1440p monitor temporarily. The upgrade should improve frame rates and image quality options immediately, while the OLED is more of a visual and quality-of-life upgrade. If you mainly want the PS5 Pro experience and OLED HDR is the priority, then the monitor becomes a reasonable first choice, but it will not increase your PC’s rendering performance.
Upgrade the GPU first. The 5800X3D is still very capable, and in demanding AAA games at 1440p—especially 4K—the RX 9070 XT will usually be the limiting component rather than the CPU. Graphics card prices may also rise while OLED monitors continue to become more affordable. Once you have the newer GPU, you can decide whether a 4K OLED is worthwhile later.
A 9070 XT should be able to deliver around 60 FPS in many demanding games at 4K with high settings, though upscaling may be useful. If 1440p high-refresh gaming is your priority, keeping the current monitor for now will give the card more headroom.
A 4K OLED makes sense if you want a better image, HDR, and a display that works well with the PS5 Pro. Just do not assume you will run every future PC game at native 4K and high frame rates. A 9070 XT is perfectly usable at 4K with sensible settings and FSR, but demanding or poorly optimized games may still need upscaling or reduced settings.
OLED prices have been trending downward, so waiting on the monitor could be worthwhile. You can always continue using the 1440p IPS display after the GPU upgrade and buy the OLED when a better deal appears.
The 5800X3D should pair well with a 9070 XT for this type of gaming. CPU limits are more likely in especially CPU-heavy games, simulations, or high-refresh 1440p scenarios, but they should be much less noticeable at 4K. You can also run a 4K monitor at 1440p or use upscaling when a particular game is too demanding.
The display upgrade is still appealing, especially for the PS5 Pro and OLED contrast, but a 4K panel does not automatically make the PC future-proof. Higher resolution puts more pressure on the GPU, so the monitor may outlast the current graphics card rather than extend its useful performance.

Also consider the physical size of a 32-inch display. It can require more desk space and a different viewing distance, so make sure the panel fits your setup before buying.
