Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE with AMD 9700x: Are My Temps Normal?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU cooler with my AMD 9700x, and I'm noticing that my idle temperatures hover around 55°C, which feels a bit high to me. Just for comparison, my last CPU, a 5600x, would idle at about 35°C. I've seen online that idle temps around 50°C are acceptable, but I worry that the combo of the 9700x and the Peerless Assassin should keep things cooler. What are your temperatures like?

My 9600x idles around 50-55°C, so it seems like we're all in a similar range!

Idling between 50-55°C is actually pretty normal for that setup. But I'm curious, what do your temps look like when you're gaming or under load?

When I'm doing light tasks, my temps hit about 70°C. I haven't pushed the CPU too hard yet, so I’m unsure what the max will be. Seems like it should be fine, but I've seen better results online. I haven’t messed with the BIOS much since I’m learning, mostly running stock settings except for enabling EXPO and turning off the integrated GPU.

Your idle temps sound alright, but the more important question is how do they look while gaming? That’s where you’ll really see how well your cooler performs!

Yeah, without doing much my temps jump to about 65°C during light gaming, and I've touched 75°C already. It can even spike above 80°C without full stress testing. Not a heat crisis, but it does feel high compared to what others report.

I have a 9700x paired with a Peerless Assassin too, and I'm idling at around 41°C. I did tweak my settings a bit with a negative PBO curve to help drop those temps. Plus, I have a very well-ventilated case and my setup is in one of the cooler spots in the house.

That's interesting! I haven't adjusted much in the BIOS, so it sounds like those changes and having good airflow might be a big help for you.
