I'm building my first gaming PC and am excited to get everything assembled. I'm comfortable using computers once they're running, but I've never handled the first boot, BIOS setup, Windows installation, or initial driver configuration. I'll be installing Windows and mainly want a reliable step-by-step process to get the system fully operational before experimenting with settings later. Are there any trustworthy guides or important setup tips I should follow?

You don’t need to spend a fortune on the fastest possible storage for a first build. A good PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive is already extremely fast for Windows and games, and using a smaller drive for the operating system plus a larger, less expensive drive for games and files can give you more usable space. A secondary SATA drive is also fine for general storage or less demanding games.
Start with the motherboard manual and keep it nearby during the first boot. It explains the correct slots for your RAM, how to enter the BIOS, and what the board’s warning lights or beep codes mean. For anything unclear, use a recent full PC-build video as a visual reference. Once the machine posts, you can install Windows and leave advanced BIOS tuning alone until everything is stable.
For Windows, use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool and an empty USB drive with at least 8 GB of space to create an installation drive. Boot from that USB, install Windows to your main SSD, and then run Windows Update. Afterward, download the latest motherboard and graphics-card drivers from their manufacturers rather than relying entirely on generic drivers installed by Windows. Creating or checking your Microsoft account beforehand can also make the installation smoother.
