I accidentally ended up with two similar AM5 motherboards after an order cancellation was reversed and the original board shipped anyway. I now have a GIGABYTE B850 Eagle WIFI6E and an ASUS TUF Gaming B850-PLUS, and I'm trying to decide which one to keep.
My build includes a Ryzen 9 9700X, DDR5 memory, a PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSD, a PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD, one hard drive, one SATA SSD, and an RTX 5070 Ti. The Gigabyte board has Wi-Fi 6E, a PCIe 5.0 slot, two PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, and an 8+2+2 phase VRM. The ASUS board has Wi-Fi 7, two M.2 slots, PCIe 5.0 support, and generally stronger connectivity.
Are these boards effectively equivalent for this setup, or is one the better long-term choice?

For your current parts, either board should run the system just fine. The 9700X and RTX 5070 Ti do not require anything especially unusual from the motherboard, so I’d keep whichever one is cheaper after considering the return or refund. There is no meaningful performance difference in games just from choosing one over the other.
I’d also verify Linux support for the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if you plan to use Linux. Wi-Fi chipsets can differ between board revisions, and replacing the wireless module later is possible but inconvenient. Apart from that, these are close enough that layout, BIOS preference, included accessories, and price should decide it.
The ASUS TUF is probably the more appealing option if the prices are close. It offers Wi-Fi 7 and tends to have better USB connectivity, while also having more M.2 heatsink coverage. Those features are more useful for future upgrades than extra VRM capacity would be for a 9700X.
That matters a little more if you plan to add several drives or expansion cards, but with one PCIe 5.0 M.2 and one PCIe 4.0 M.2, both boards should cover the storage setup.
