I'm choosing a graphics card for 1440p gaming. RTX 3080 cards are selling for around $420 or more, while RTX 3080 Ti models cost roughly $500+. I can also find an RX 6900 XT for about $440–$460. Which option offers the best value and performance? I'm also considering the RX 6900 XT because FSR 4 is expected to support the RX 6000 series.

I’ve used all three and ended up keeping the 6900 XT. For 1080p or 1440p gaming with high textures, the extra VRAM is useful and the performance is excellent. The main reason to prefer the Nvidia cards would be better ray tracing or Nvidia-specific software features.
At those prices, the RX 6900 XT is probably the best value. It is generally a little faster in traditional rasterized games than the RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti, and its 16GB of VRAM gives it more headroom for newer games. All three cards are still very capable for 1440p.
The RX 6900 XT would be my pick if you mainly care about regular gaming performance. It is cheaper than the 3080 Ti in your market, has more VRAM, and should perform at least as well in rasterization. Nvidia’s advantages are mainly ray tracing, upscaling, and related features, so choose Nvidia only if those are especially important to you.
The 3080 Ti is still a solid card, and 12GB can be enough for 1440p, but paying around $500 for one doesn’t seem attractive compared with a $440–$460 6900 XT. Try checking local benchmarks and availability first, since pricing varies a lot by region. If you can find a 6900 XT closer to $400, it becomes an even stronger deal.
One counterpoint is that Nvidia’s upscaling and ray-tracing support can be more consistent, while newer AMD features may have a larger performance cost on older RX 6000 cards. If you mostly play competitive games without ray tracing, though, the 6900 XT’s raw performance and 16GB VRAM make more sense at these prices.
