I live in one of the largest cities in the United States, and my Google Business Profile appears near the top when I search for web design terms in my city. I have more than 50 reviews, all from local businesses, but I've received almost no calls over the past few months. Is local search still generating leads, or could my rankings be personalized? Should I focus more on paid ads and outreach, or has demand for web design changed?

Being visible is helpful, but the top position alone doesn’t guarantee leads. Make sure you’re consistently appearing in the local map results rather than only in personalized searches or below sponsored listings. If your visibility is real but conversions are weak, test a clearer offer, stronger landing page, and direct outreach or paid campaigns instead of relying entirely on organic traffic.
Look at impressions compared with calls before concluding that rankings have stopped working. If impressions are steady but calls have declined, the issue may be search intent rather than visibility. Many people now get enough information from search summaries, marketplaces, or comparison sites without calling a local provider.
First, verify that you’re actually ranking highly for people outside your own search history and location. Google personalizes results, so seeing your listing at number one doesn’t necessarily mean everyone else sees it there. Check your Business Profile performance data for impressions, website visits, direction requests, and calls from external users.
