Why can I download games on Steam but browsers say there’s no internet?

I recently encountered a weird issue with my internet connection. When I open Google Chrome, I get an error saying that the site can't be reached and the connection is reset, displaying the error code ERR_CONNECTION_RESET. However, Steam is still able to download and update games without any problems, and I can also ping successfully through the command prompt. I've already tried restarting my PC, and I'm really frustrated. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Try this method: Press Windows+R to open Run, then type 'ncpa.cpl' and hit Enter. Right-click your network device and select Properties, then double-click on IPv4 settings. Make sure to select 'Use the following DNS servers' and input 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.2.2. After that, restart your computer and see if it helps!

Keep both DNS settings on 'obtain automatically' if that's how they were originally. Sometimes switching to manual settings can complicate things.

No need to reinstall anything. Just look for a setting to reset your network settings to default, and that might help resolve the issue.

Also, check your IPv4 settings. They should be set to 'Obtain automatically'. Are you using a VPN often that might be causing this?

I use a VPN occasionally, but changing those DNS settings didn’t help either.

You might want to start by troubleshooting your network connection. Right-click the internet icon in the bottom right corner and select 'Troubleshoot'. What's your Windows version, by the way?
