I downloaded a couple of PDF files for school, but I can't remove them. They don't appear in the Recycle Bin, and the normal File Explorer context menu is missing the Rename and Delete options. Dragging the files also shows a blocked cursor. I'm working in Windows 10 and trying to delete them from File Explorer, not from an Edge browser tab. What should I try?

You can also try deleting them from an elevated Command Prompt. Open Command Prompt as administrator, use cd to navigate to the folder containing the PDFs, and run del "filename.pdf" for each file. This can reveal or bypass problems that prevent File Explorer from showing the normal delete option.
First, close Microsoft Edge completely. It may still be running in the background and keeping the PDFs locked. Check Task Manager to make sure there are no msedge.exe processes left, then try deleting the files again. If that doesn’t help, open the file’s Properties and make sure Read-only isn’t checked. If the PDFs are in a school-managed OneDrive folder, try moving them somewhere else before deleting them, since sync or admin policies may be preventing removal.
Make sure you’re selecting the actual files in File Explorer rather than an Edge download list or browser tab. The location matters because browser controls won’t provide the same file actions. If the files are in a protected or synced folder, check the folder’s permissions or move them to a normal personal folder first.
