I'm planning a gaming PC using an ATX case, but I found the mATX version of the motherboard I want for about €40 less than the full-size ATX version. I know an mATX board will physically fit in an ATX case, but I'm wondering how noticeable the empty space below the motherboard will look. Could it make the build look unbalanced, and would the shorter board provide less support for a large graphics card or make GPU sag worse? Reference photos or recommendations for similarly priced ATX boards would also be helpful.

An mATX board will fit normally in an ATX case, and the appearance mostly depends on the case. In a standard mid-tower with a PSU shroud, the unused space below the board usually isn’t too distracting. If the bottom of the case is ventilated, you could also add intake fans there to make the area look more intentional.
If you prefer a full-size board, the ASUS TUF Gaming B650E-PLUS WiFi is worth comparing with the Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX, although pricing varies by country. For storage, I’d avoid very low-end drives such as the Crucial E100 if a better-rated TLC SSD is available at a similar price. Also consider an ATX 3.x power supply if you haven’t bought one yet.
The motherboard size won’t make GPU sag worse. The graphics card is supported by the case’s expansion-slot bracket and mounting points, not by the lower edge of the motherboard. Just use a support bracket if the card is especially large or heavy.
The main practical difference is that mATX boards sometimes have fewer fan headers, expansion slots, and M.2 slots. Check the exact specifications of the board and make sure it has enough connectivity for your planned fans and storage. Visually, some people like the cleaner look, while others dislike the empty area underneath.
The ASUS board is considerably more expensive where I live, so I’ll compare it with other ATX options around the price of the Gigabyte. I also haven’t bought the storage or power supply yet, so I’ll look for a better-quality SSD and an ATX 3.x PSU.
