I'm planning to build a server for web hosting, a NAS, and to run virtual machines, all within a budget of €1000. I live in France and I'm considering using an Intel i5 12600k, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a B760 DDR4 MSI motherboard. Is this a solid choice for such a server? Also, what operating system do you think would be the best fit for my setup? Thanks for your help!

I've been using Ubuntu Server for a while and it’s been fantastic as I got the hang of Linux. If working in the terminal seems intimidating, consider OS options with web interfaces, such as Proxmox or TrueNAS. Best of luck with your build!
You can't use DDR5 RAM with a DDR4 motherboard, so that's a mismatch to fix. Also, I recommend upgrading to 32GB of RAM if you're going to run virtual machines. As for the OS, it really depends on what you need. Debian is a solid choice since it’s free and has tons of tutorials available.
I hear you about Debian, though. My experience has been slightly frustrating since I often struggle to find the right packages without spending a lot of time searching.

Absolutely agree! A hypervisor OS like Proxmox or XCP-ng could be a great option for managing different services on your server.
