Advice on Cold Calling for Web Development Services

I'm running a small web development company and have been trying cold calling to reach businesses without a website or with outdated sites. I've been here a few years and still have an accent, which makes me anxious about the calls. I had someone assist with cold calls, but they only made 4 out of the 30 planned, and I realized that no one would invest in my business like I do. So, I'm wondering: should I switch to emailing businesses to gauge interest in a new website, handle the cold calling myself, or hire someone else who might be more committed? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, if someone cold calls me, I wouldn’t want to give them money. If taking care of everything yourself feels like too much, maybe think about sharing ownership with someone who can take on some of that burden.

A great approach is to do something like 'semi-cold calling.' Check out their website, come up with specific ways it could be improved, and then call them to discuss your findings. If you show them a proposal highlighting how your suggestions could lead to better sales, they might be more receptive. Also, be prepared that in many cases, rebuilding the site may be what's really needed since old sites often have complexities or outdated tools making them hard to work with.

Cold calling can be tough for web devs! I tried it early on and found the conversion rates really low. What worked better for me was searching for businesses with poor or non-existent websites on Google Maps and sending them emails with short mockups or audits of their sites. It's less confrontational than a call, and they can see your work immediately. Also, don't stress too much about your accent. Clients generally care more about results than how you sound.

I run a small web agency, and I have a couple of telemarketers working with me. We usually have to make around 200 calls to get one client, which can be discouraging. But with my dialer, I can get that done in about 4 hours, costing around $72 to land a client. Maybe hiring a motivated telemarketer could help you too!
