Am I a Victim of a Hacking Scam?

Hey everyone, I got this alarming email on my iPhone 11 claiming that I was hacked. The sender said they have videos of me and included my password in the message. They demanded $1,290 in Bitcoin, or else they'd send the videos to my contacts. The email was quite detailed and sounded scary, explaining how they supposedly gained access to my devices. I'm really worried and need some advice on what to do. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

This is a classic phishing scam, often referred to as a sextortion attempt. Just delete the email and try not to worry about it. Make sure to update your passwords and enable two-factor authentication on your accounts for extra security.

Definitely agree. It's a common trick. If you’re really concerned, take a look at your device for any malware, but it’s likely just a scare tactic.

This sounds like a spoofed sextortion scam for sure. Seriously, don’t give them a cent. Focus on keeping your online accounts secure instead.

I've seen many like this before. They usually don't have any real evidence, just a way to scare you into paying. Do you even have a webcam that they could've used?

I only have my phone now since I moved out, so I’m not sure how they could have videos of me.

No way you were actually hacked. Just trash the email and move on. If it makes you feel better, check your security settings and run a virus scan.
