Am I on the Right Track in My Cloud Career?

Hey everyone, I'm currently in a graduate scheme and have been with the cloud team for about a year now. Initially, I was meant to rotate through different tech teams, but I really loved my cloud team and Azure, so I chose to stay. Over this year, I've been handling third-line support, working on both traditional infrastructure and cloud solutions. I've tackled some complex networking issues, managed our firewall logs, and have been given responsibility for a full firewall outage. I can script quite well, including automating cost tracking, and I've configured dynamic groups on Exchange. I'm pretty comfortable creating VM templates and have been optimizing both costs and specs in Azure, which I consider to be at an above-intermediate level.

I also have good PIM admin skills, and I prefer Infrastructure as Code (IaC) over just using the portal. As a grad, I've been granted owner access at the root group level, though I don't have GA yet. I keep detailed logs of my work and constantly look for ways to improve practices. I've got my AZ-104 certification and am the go-to person for SAML renewals and new SSO configurations, which has saved my company around £60,000 per year through optimizations.

With all that said, I'm questioning if my skills are alright for someone with just one year of Azure experience. I love this field and want to make sure I'm on the right path. Any tips on how I can solidify my position in the industry? My biggest fear is reverting to a service desk role.

As long as you have a strong grasp of networking and cloud concepts, you’re in a solid place. Don’t be too hard on yourself about past experiences. Focus on what you love and how to keep growing. Just keep penning down your achievements; it’ll pay off on your CV!
