Am I safe after a virus warning from Firefox on Linux?

I recently downloaded a movie file (mp4) using Firefox on my Ubuntu Linux system. After the download completed, I received a warning from the browser indicating that the file contained a virus or malicious software. I saw a button to delete it, and I went ahead and deleted the file because I got anxious about it. I'm not running any antivirus software right now, but I tried to install ClamScan for scanning my files. Unfortunately, it seems like I can't access my download folder through it. I wanted to know if I should be worried or if I'm in the clear after deleting that file.

Honestly, it's pretty rare for video files to actually contain malware. It sounds more like a notification from your browser rather than the operating system. Just to clarify, you mentioned it was Firefox that warned you, right? Those auto-warnings can be helpful but sometimes they just flag suspicious files based on their source. Since you deleted the file and can’t find it anymore, you’re probably safe! If you're still worried, running ClamScan after fixing its access issue would be a good call. Just make sure to keep your system updated as a general safety measure.

Yeah, definitely check your browser settings. It can sometimes provide notifications that aren't based on actual malware but rather on the file type or source. Since you were on Ubuntu and deleted the file upon the warning, you should be fine. Just being cautious is a good habit! If you want to be extra sure, once you get ClamScan working, do a full system scan just to put your mind at ease.
