So I've been really interested in the surge of Linux usage after PewDiePie started using it publicly a few months ago. He's such a massive figure in the online world, and it feels like this could be a big moment for Linux, similar to how Henry Cavill sparked interest in Warhammer. I've been using Linux since around 2010, and I've never seen this level of buzz before. I'm looking for some solid data on whether there's been any actual increase in interest in Linux since then. Things like active desktop user stats, Google Trends analytics, increases in Steam/Proton usage, or download figures for Linux distributions would be super helpful. If we don't have that data yet, any guesses on when we might get it?

Yeah, it seems like PewDiePie’s antics might've actually pushed some folks back to Windows instead! He’s got a lot of flair, but the reality is, these stats are pretty massive, so it’s unlikely that just one influencer can really change the desktop OS landscape. Just check out the numbers here: [link to stats]. But I do think his exposure has been beneficial for Linux overall, even if it's not reflected in the immediate statistics.
I guess it’s just the usual ups and downs in the market. Hopefully, one day we really will see the ‘year of the Linux Desktop’ everyone talks about!
Actually, it looks like July showed a decline in Linux market share. Not the news I was hoping for! But let's be real, PewDiePie is such a huge figure that you'd think his influence would at least nudge the numbers a bit. It’s tough when the data points are so large; a single YouTuber's impact might not be enough to shift general usage patterns.

I know, right? It’s wild to see how much OSX is pulling ahead too! I thought Linux would be making a stronger case.
