I'm curious if all micro USB console cables work with HP Aruba switches, or if they need to be specific to certain brands or models. I just got a few switches from my old job at HQ, and I need the right cable to configure them initially. Any insights would be appreciated!

From what I've learned, most micro USB cables are pretty standard. I’ve used the same one for both a Palo Alto and an Aruba device, and it worked just fine.
You definitely don’t need a specific vendor cable, just make sure it's a proper micro USB data cable. Watch out for those that are just for charging—those won't work since they skip the data lines. If your OS detects a serial device when you plug it in, you should be all set!
A regular USB cable should do the trick unless it's a charging-only cable. This applies to newer models like the CX6100 too, which uses USB-C.
Just to clarify—are you saying a standard micro USB to USB A will work? I thought there had to be a chip in the cable for it to be usable?
If you’ve got a micro USB cable that supports data transfer, just plug it in and check your device manager for a new COM port. The important tech is in the switch itself, not in the cable. Just so you know, I've got a bunch of Aruba devices lying around. It works!
Thanks! I'll give it a go.

Got it! That clears things up, thanks!
