I just built my first gaming PC with some pretty high-end components:
- 9950x3d CPU
- MSI MPG x870e Carbon Motherboard
- MSI 5080 Trio Graphics Card
- NZXT Kraken Elite 420 AIO Cooler
- G.SKILL Flare X5 Series DDR5 RAM (32GB)
- 2TB NVMe Storage
- MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 Power Supply
- NZXT H9 Flow RGB+ Case
I installed Windows 11 and it ran perfectly for about two hours with moderate usage, keeping CPU and GPU temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius. I updated all drivers today, and the BIOS is the latest version. While browsing with Chrome, the PC suddenly lost power and now it won't turn on at all. I see some lights on the motherboard when it's plugged in, but pressing the power button does nothing. I'm suspecting it might be a power supply issue, but I'm not sure. Could there be other reasons for this, and what steps should I take next? Any recommendations for a reliable power supply?

First off, what wattage is your power supply? You didn’t mention that! I went for a 1200W ASUS Platinum PSU just to be on the safe side. If you’ve got a good PSU, it should handle your components just fine, especially if you’re running a 1300W model as you mentioned. It could be an issue with the PSU itself, but also check your connections to make sure everything is seated correctly.

Yeah, my PSU is rated at 1300 watts. I thought it would be enough, especially since I initially planned on getting a 5090 but settled for the 5080. I figured the extra wattage future-proofed me a bit.
