I'm a recent graduate working as a junior developer at my old school. While I focus on my main job, I also take on side projects to learn more. I'm curious about whether investing in certifications, like AWS or Azure, is still worth it nowadays. Back when I started my education, certifications seemed crucial, but I'm not sure if they hold the same value today. What do you all think?

Honestly, I've never found certificates to have much value in development. A solid portfolio of projects speaks way louder than a piece of paper!
I think certifications can be beneficial, but only if you apply what you've learned through personal projects. It’s one thing to have the cert, but demonstrating your skills is what's really going to catch an employer's eye.
My current job uses Azure. Do you think focusing on AWS would be smarter, considering I'll gain Azure experience on the job?
If you're getting hands-on experience with Azure at work, it might be better to pursue that certification instead. It aligns with what you'll be doing day-to-day.
Getting certified can definitely help you stand out, especially when you're just starting. I have an AWS Certified Developer Associate credential, and I believe it helped me land a job because it sets me apart from other recent graduates. So, if you have the resources, it might be a good investment!

100% agree! Experience and skills are what really matter in this field.
